Public Assistance Request – Dog Bite – Owen Sound

Grey Bruce Public Health is asking for the public’s help in identifying the owner of a dog that was involved in a biting incident on March 3, 2024, at the dog park on 1st Avenue East in Owen Sound.

At about 4 a.m., a person was bitten by a dog, believed to be a husky-cross, while the dog was at the off-leash park with its owner.

The victim has described the dog as having a slender appearance, weighing approximately 60 pounds, with a fur colour typically seen on huskies. The dog was wearing a prong collar at the time of the incident and was called Sophie by its owner.

The dog was with a woman who was in her early to mid-20s, had medium-to-long brown hair in a messy bun, and was wearing a sky-blue jacket.

Grey Bruce Public Health needs to confirm the dog is not infectious with the rabies virus. By verifying the health of the dog, the victim can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Grey Bruce Public Health at 519-376-9420 ext. 1455.
