Swim advisory lifted for Kelso Beach at Nawash Park

Grey Bruce Public Health, in consultation with the City of Owen Sound, has lifted the swim advisory for Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.

The decision was made on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after water samples taken at the beach earlier this week showed bacterial levels had returned to within Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines for swimming/bathing.

The beach had been posted as unsafe for swimming on Friday, July 19, 2024, due to bacterial levels exceeding those guidelines.

“Grey Bruce Public Health would like to thank the public for their understanding and for respecting the no-swim advisory at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park,” says Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton.

People who swim, play in, or use beach water that has high bacteria levels are at an increased risk of getting sick or an infection.

The swim advisory for Kelso Beach at Nawash Park did not include the splash pad or water in the west-side park’s washrooms as they are served by the city’s municipal water system.
